MAKE REAL CHANGE FOR HACKNEY

Posted by Graham Woodruff · August 14, 2020 6:49 AM

BE A GREEN COUNCILLOR

Hackney residents have the opportunity to elect amazing Green councillors in 2022!

Could YOU be Hackney’s next Green councillor?

Yes I'm Interested

You can be a part of a growing team of inspirational candidates, volunteers, activists and local supporters, all working for the same goal: to make real change for Hackney.

Hackney Green Party is the hard working, credible and vital opposition that Hackney so desperately needs. The social, ecological and climate emergencies that we are living through demand that we elect strong and diverse Green voices as soon as possible.

We are looking to select FIVE target candidates to be councillors in TWO central Hackney wards: Dalston and Hackney Downs. (Please note: You do not need to live in these wards.)

If you are interested in being a councillor, this is the time to let us know! We are focusing on 5 candidates in 2 wards so that we can win under First Past The Post and elect you as a Green councillor!

We especially welcome applications if you self-identify as a person of colour, as living with a disability, as a woman, non-binary or gender-fluid, or as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

You can find out more about what to expect as a Green Party candidate here (pdf)

Watch previous candidates about their experiences here (captions available)

Alex Armitage, who stood as a council candidate in 2018, explains how excited community members can be when you take the time to come to their door and talk to them about politics:

Marie Remy, who stood as a council candidate in the 2019 Clissold ward by-election, explains how rewarding it can be when residents tell you it feels like the first time they have been really listened to:

Tyrone Scott, who stood as the 2019 parliamentary candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch, tells us how supported he felt by the Hackney Green Party to be making a real impact in Hackney:

Sally Zlotowitz stood as a target candidate for the Hackney Council in the 2018 local elections. Find out a bit about her experience as a candidate in this shortclip of highlights from a recent Hackney Greens webinar.

Sheila Menon stood as a target candidate for the Hackney Council in the 2018 local elections. Find out a bit about her experience as a candidate in this shortclip of highlights from a recent Hackney Greens webinar.
