Hackney Green Party made history on the 8th of May 2026 as Zoë Garbett was elected as the UK's first directly elected Green Mayor. The win in Hackney was followed shortly by the election of a Green council and another directly elected Green Mayor in Lewisham as well as Greens taking other councils across London.
Mayor Zoë Garbett got to work right away, appointing her cabinet and launching a "Who Owns Hackney?" initiative.
